Guided tour
The Morépire slate mine closed in 1977, after operating for more than a century. Since then, part of the underground passages has been converted to offer visitors a 1 km tour between 25m and 45m below the surface, with a lift down and back up again (at a 45° angle), a tour of 24,000m³ of tunnels, a visit to the stone face, mannequins dressed as miners and explanatory panels describing the geological, technical, and human aspects of slate mining. At ground level are a car park, cafeteria, restaurant serving local specialities, playgrounds and a souvenir shop.
Meals can be served underground for groups by prior reservation.
